Oracy

Oracy is one of our five curriculum drivers.  Everything we do revolves around providing our children with a language rich environment and vocabulary development.  We teach our children how to communicate and teachers plan opportunities for high quality classroom talk. It is explicitly taught and deliberately practised every day.  Teachers plan for language acquisition in all lessons and oracy is nurtured by everyday interactions. It is visible, showcased and celebrated.

We believe in oracy as curriculum rather than pedagogy. We teach our pupils to speak clearly, to convey their ideas fluently and confidently and to ask and answer questions. We encourage children to consider audience and purpose when speaking and so provide a range of speaking experiences and opportunities. Confidence in basic language skills enables children to communicate creatively and imaginatively, preparing them for their future journey through education and beyond. Spoken language is at the core of all aspects of our curriculum.
